The more recent Painting Net of Campus (Left Above) is a response to Kandingsky’s concept of geometrical segmentation and constitution. Point, line and plane are the main visual elements in the composition. Some pyramid-shaped lines in the middle painting inspirited from the logo of the Lancaster University, which in my view is the linear signal of the academic ivory tower. Line is here used to split the visual plane to create a mixture stage of space, time and perspective existed simultaneously in the campus. In the painting, I generalize the architectures by the relatively abstract shapes of point, line and plane, and make composition according to the proportion and mutual relationship of these geometrical shapes. The photographs around the painting, I took from the campus, are also an integral part of the total work to bring some additional yet contradictory spaces – the conceptual parallel of art and reality. The photographs also assist to create a composition of colour and act as an index of the architectures of the campus, helping the painter to tell the process of making painting.
